WISHLIST

Welcome to Linen Consultants, purveyor of fine linens for home and special occasions, located in the historic Cedar-Fairmount District of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The beautifully renovated boutique holds an array of distinctive linens and gifts from luxurious to everyday stylish.

Linen Consultants is brimming with new merchandise. After many requests, we now carry Pimpernel, the favorite line of hard placemats and coasters. These durable, low-maintenance rectangular mats come in many designs for all tastes. For casual dining we also have Pimpernel vinyl mats, perfect for the breakfast room or outdoors.

Bagni Volpi Noemi is a luxury bedding line made outside Florence, Italy, known for it's classic styling, precise workmanship, and superior fabrics. The swatch sample books allow you to see and touch the materials and to choose the right ensemble.

The French company Le Jacquard Français has been making fabric since 1888, but has been making a splash especially since its partnership with internationally-known stylist Primrose Bordier. Offering tablecloths, placemats and napkins, tea towels, and even fabulous robes and beach towels, this line uses all cotton, blends of cotton and linen, and 100% linen. Styles range from everyday gingham to brilliant strokes of color to subtly elegant heirloom designs.

Habidecor, our favorite bath rug company, has revamped their line, and has tied it seamlessly to Abyss, the fine Portugese micocotton towel line that we also carry. The new patterns are modern, natural, and in many colors. They've retained their classic rugs, and will make rugs in nearly any size.

As consumers have latched onto thread count as the favored metric for buying sheets, we encounter a lot of confusion about the quality/price rapport. Thread count is one consideration when investing in bedding, but must be weighed in context. Many manufacturers, sensing the public's fascination, have pushed the thread count limit skyward while leaving out the other equally important elements of quality. There are three key components to look for:
Thread count-this describes the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Unfortunately, some sheets are being made with a single-ply cotton that is then divided into two, three or four-ply, allowing the label to boast of high thread count. Density of cotton is what thread count is meant to measure. Beware of the suspiciously high thread count sheets that are being sold as bargain prices. They may actually be less durable than your old sheets, weakened by fibers split too many times.
Fiber quality-not all cotton is born equal. Long staple cotton, also called Egyptian, Pima or Sea Island, is stronger, smoother, and finer than short staple cotton. Of course, within the category of long staple cotton there are varying qualities. The best way for a consumer to know which they are getting is to buy sheets from a known, reputable manufacturer.
Construction-building a sheet starts with the fabric and carries through to its tailoring. Running elastic all of the way around a fitted sheet rather than just at the corners assures a better fit and lengthens the life of the sheet. Many of the better brands cut their sheets much larger than your run-of-the-mill sheets, reducing stress on the sheet and increasing sleep comfort. Finishing details such as hemstitching, European turn-backs, or punto ombra finishing add to the quality.
